Indian artists bagged three awards at the 77th Cannes Film Festival including Best Actress, Grand Prix and La Cinef prizes.
It was a big victory for India at the 77th Cannes Film Festival when Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light won the Grand Prix prize Saturday. Indian short films Sunflowers Were The First Ones To Know and Bunnyhood also bagged the first and third prizes respectively at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival 2024 under La Cinef section. Actor Anasuya Sengupta also won the Best Actress award under the Un Certain Regard section at the film festival.
The announcement of the awards also marked the end of the Cannes Film Festival 2024 after eleven days. American filmmaker-screenwriter Greta Gerwig chaired the jury of the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Actors Lily Gladstone, Eva Green, Pierfrancesco Favino, writer-photographer Ebru Ceylan, filmmakers Nadine Labaki, Juan Antonio Bayona, Japanese director Kore-eda Hirokazu and French actor and producer Omar Sy were also part of the jury.
The two short films were competing in the La Cinef section which featured 18 films from 555 film schools from across the globe. Both the Indian films, among the rest of the official selection under the La Cinef section of the 77th edition of the film festival, were picked among more than two thousand entries.
