Alec Baldwin‘s day in court has finally arrived. The actor’s involuntary manslaughter trial commenced this week — nearly three years after the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Hutchins was killed during rehearsal on the set of Baldwin’s ill-fated Western movie Rust when a prop gun he was holding went off, injuring director Joel Souza and fatally shooting Hutchins. The film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter earlier this year and is currently serving an 18-month sentence in a New Mexico state prison.
Baldwin, for his part, has pleaded not guilty to the charges. While the prosecutors accused him of playing “make-believe with a real gun” during their opening statements, his defense insisted that the weapon was deemed “cold,” per CNN, meaning it was believed to contain no live rounds.
