Senator J.D. Vance’s book Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis topped the Amazon Best Sellers chart after former President Donald Trump announced him as his running mate Monday afternoon.
Trump announced Vance, who represents Ohio in the U.S. Senate, as his vice presidential candidate in a post to Truth Social Monday afternoon. Vance has positioned himself as a conservative closely aligned with Trump since his election in 2022, despite past critiques of the former president. Conservatives celebrated Trump’s announcement, which came on the first day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
« After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio », Trump posted.
He wrote that Vance will be « strongly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and far beyond.
