Vance has faced backlash over comments he made while running for the Senate in 2021 that resurfaced after Trump, the Republican nominee, announced him as his running mate.
In those remarks, Vance questioned the leadership of Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, and others, claiming they don’t have a « direct stake » in the country because they do not have biological children.
« We are effectively run in this country via the Democrats » by « a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too », he said on Fox News in 2021.
