Robert F. Kennedy Jr. falsely claimed New York residence on petitions filed with the state, a judge ruled Monday in invalidating documents the presidential candidate needs to be on the state’s ballot in November. The ruling can be appealed, the AP reports. But if it’s upheld, Kennedy opponents could be inspired to bring challenges in other states where he used the same address in New York City’s northern suburbs in gathering petition signatures. Also Monday, a judge in Raleigh ruled Kennedy can remain on North Carolina’s presidential ballots. That challenge to the independent candidate involved whether We the People, which has been used to put Kennedy on the ballot in several states, is an official party, per the AP.

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. fought to be on New York’s ballot Monday as a trial began over whether he falsely claimed to live in the state—with a cousin of his among those testifying against him.
