Instagram ‘is actively preventing people from posting messages of condolences for the passing of Hamas leader Haniyeh,’ says Turkey’s Head of Communications.
Turkish authorities have blocked access to Instagram two days after a government official criticized the platform’s censorship policies.
Turkey’s internet regulator, BTK, announced the news on its website but did not say why it banned the app or how long the block will last. Daily Sabah, a website affiliated with the Turkish government, reports that the move may be been a response to Instagram’s removal of posts mourning the death of Hamas’ political leader Ismail Haniyeh.
