The chip launches on Nov. 7, but depending on the PC game, don’t expect a huge performance increase over the older Ryzen 7800X3D chip.
After a tease, AMD is spilling the beans on its next-generation Ryzen 7 9800X3D chip, which arrives on Nov. 7 for $479.
AMD is calling the 9800X3D « the world’s best gaming processor. » X3D chips have always stood out for incorporating a 3D chip-stacking process that can increase the processor’s L3 cache and improve its PC gaming capabilities.
In this case, the 9800X3D features 96MB of L3 cache, significantly more than the 64MB of L3 cache in the Ryzen 9900X. The new chip also adopts AMD’s second-generation 3D V-Cache tech, which promises to reduce the processor’s heat—an issue seen on earlier X3D chips.
In a statement, AMD explained the L3 cache memory in the 9800X3D « has been relocated below the processor, which puts the core complex die (CCD) closer to the cooling solution to help keep the ‘Zen 5’ cores cooler.
