This month on HBO’s streaming service, monsters walk the Earth, tons of classic cinema comes to streaming, and Clint Eastwood’s latest film hits the lineup.
December is an interesting month on Max, with a wide variety of content from various sources hitting the service. Their movie library continues to expand with classics like The Maltese Falcon and Key Largo, and more modern stuff to watch includes a new DC animated series, plenty of racing and reality TV, and the new Clint Eastwood movie. The mind of James Gunn brings us another DC Universe deep dive, this time revolving around the obscure early 80s war comic that followed a Dracula, a Frankenstein, a werewolf, and a Medusa as they battled the Axis during World War II. The modern version sees the monster team serving as a black ops unit under the supervision of Suicide Squad’s Amanda Waller, and this serves as a spin-off from the very funny Peacemaker.The Head: Season 3 (Dec. 19)
This is an under-the-radar show that we just got into, and if you haven’t checked it out The Head is a perfect winter binge. Set at the Polaris VI Antarctic Research Station, it begins when the summer crew arrives to discover that almost the entire group of winter holdover researchers is dead. The summer commander must find the sole survivor and discover what happened to the previous crew, including his wife. The second season wasn’t quite as good, but we’ll see what happens after the sophomore slump.Juror #2 (Dec. 20)
Clint Eastwood’s latest film barely got a theatrical release, which is a shame as reviews have been glowing. When a young man is summoned to jury duty for a murder trial only to realize that he might have accidentally killed the victim himself, it opens up moral quandaries across the courtroom.
