Elden Ring is a really fun game with lots of fun to offer players. But if boredom strikes at some point, here are some things players can do.
Elden Ring is one of the most popular games of the last decade, as it offers players an outstanding story, deep lore, and a broad range of different weapons, armor, enemies and various spells to try out. These are complemented by a vast open world that can be explored in detail, which makes the experience even better.
That said, even with all these wonderful elements, players might eventually get bored with what The Lands Between have to offer, especially if they’ve been playing for a while. Luckily, with so many possibilities, there are various things players can try to make the game feel fun again, and keep discovering all the secrets this title contains. Here are some things to do when players are bored in Elden Ring.
Updated on March 18, 2025, by Gerardo Molina: Although the Dark Souls franchise is extremely popular and great overall, many players agree that Elden Ring is FromSoftware’s magnum opus to date. Both the base game and the Shadow of the ErdTree DLC feature many formidable bosses, and tons of different weapons and armor sets that players can use to create different builds. That said, this is the first title by FromSoftware that is an open world, so both newcomers and veterans of the Dark Souls franchise might sometimes feel bored when exploring the vastness of The Lands Between. Luckily, there are many fun things to do to shake up a playthrough in Elden Ring. 7
Do NPC Side Quests
Several NPC Side Quests Available
When bosses are too tough, going along the sidelines can be a great idea
The Dark Souls franchise has always been known for offering players tons of different side quests to do. Some can be completed rather easily, whereas others will forced players to explore every corner of the world to find the necessary NPCs, which can also make them lose out on certain narratives and lock them until NG+. The same goes for Elden Ring, which arguably features even more side quests that are probably harder to complete and much easier to miss. Some are rather small and won’t reward players with something too valuable, whereas others will grant them incredible items and even strong armor sets that they can use against the formidable bosses that they’ll encounter in The Lands Between.
A great example of this is White Mask Varré’s questline, which, among other things, will grant players access to Mohgwyn Palace, a very important area if players want to take on Mohg, Lord of Blood and gain access to the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Millicent’s questline is also very exciting and will force players to follow along carefully to avoid missing out on important aspects of it. All in all, doing NPC questlines can be a great idea if players are struggling with a specific mandatory boss and want to either level up or get valuable items. 6
Do A Challenge Run
Starting out as a Wretch (Elden Ring’s version of the Deprived class) can be a good choice
Eliminating buffs or avoiding the use of Flasks of Crimson Tears can make the game harder
Sometimes, when players have already completed Elden Ring once, they’ll be looking for a challenge to make their play through harder.
