The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has officially announced that a new category will be added in time for the 100th Academy Awards.

On April 10, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences officially announced a new category, finally honoring stunt performers and their work in the film industry.
The award for Stunt Design will first be presented at the 100th Academy Awards ceremony.

« Since the early days of cinema, stunt design has been an integral part of filmmaking », Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang said, per Deadline.

The Academy has honored stunt workers before with honorary Oscars.
