Sources exclusively tell Us Weekly that Sydney Sweeney’s new movie, ‘Christy,’ recouped all of its costs before opening weekend despite criticism
Sydney Sweeney continues to receive rave reviews for her performance in Christy, and despite criticism of the movie’s opening weekend box office, sources exclusively tell Us Weekly the film has already recouped its costs.
Over the weekend, Christy, which features Sweeney playing the role of former professional boxer Christy Martin, opened in 2,000 theaters and earned $1.3 million.
On social media, many seemed to believe the box office was not strong. Us has learned the narrative being pushed is false and the companies behind the film have already earned their money back through international sales of the film. One insider called the film a “runaway success.” The insider pointed out that this was the movie distributor Black Bear’s first release as well.
Box office has been down across the board for films. In October, theaters saw the worst October in 27 years, excluding 2020.
Industry sources tell Us they believe the film’s box office, which they believe did not have enough “awareness,” could grow due to the glowing reviews being posted by people who saw the movie.
