The new year begins with another purge of shows and movies from Netflix. Here’s what you need to watch before it’s gone.
Netflix is the streaming service with the most original movies and shows, but to make room for the new stuff, some of the movies and shows that you’ve always wanted to see—and have had on your to-watch list for months—must be put out to pasture.
That’s because Netflix doesn’t own everything it streams. Its contracts with networks, production companies, and movie studios mean its programming constantly shifts. So, each month, we bring you up to date with a list of what’s going to disappear, and highlight our top choices for what you should watch in January before they’re gone. This month sees a ton of movies leave on the first day of the year, but we’re also losing some extremely binge-worthy TV series.Mr. Robot: Seasons 1-4 (Jan. 3)
It’s funny how the world of uncontrolled cybercrime predicted in Mr. Robot when it premiered in 2015 seems almost quaint, as AI-powered scammers now impersonate celebrities and family members, data breaches happen on a daily basis, and monopolistic tech companies warp the social fabric to their sick desires. The USA series still holds up, with Rami Malek making his career as introverted hacker Elliot, who joins a vigilante hacking gang and opens a can of worms that threatens to destroy the world as we know it.
