Microsoft says a fix is already in the works, no ETA
Posts on the Microsoft Community forums indicate that the mouse and keyboard stop working all of a sudden, and the only way to restore them is to use touch input for a few seconds. This reportedly fixes the issue temporarily before the bug comes back once again.
The issue occurs after upgrading the device to the Windows 10 April 2018 Update, and the most recent cumulative update shipped on this month’s Patch Tuesday doesn’t seem to make any difference.
“I have also noticed that when the mouse stops working, the keyboard also stops working, but like you stated, if you touch the screen, the mouse and keyboard start working again. I never seen this before updating to the April 2018 update,” one user explains on the forums.
Microsoft says it’s already aware of the bug and working on a fix, though no ETA has been provided as to when the company could release it.
“We are currently working on a solution that will be provided in a future Windows Update. Please continue to check for Surface and Windows Updates to ensure your device has the most current firmware and software available,” the company says.
The next Patch Tuesday takes place on June 12, and this is the day when Microsoft is projected to publish a new Windows 10 April 2018 Update cumulative update with both security and non-security fixes. It’s not known just yet whether this cumulative update will resolve the problem or not.
It goes without saying that bug like these hitting Microsoft’s own devices could only lead to more frustration among the company’s own customer base, though right now it all depends on how fast a fix is provided to resolve the issue.
