Sony officially announces the Days Gone release date, also revealing a brand new gameplay trailer for the PS4 exclusive as well as information about an enemy faction.
When publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that action-adventure game Days Gone had been delayed to 2019, fans were understandably concerned. The game is one of the most hotly anticipated PS4 exclusives – and one of the most hotly anticipated games in general – so many were disappointed that the game had been pushed back. Many also wondered if it meant that development on the game was somehow not going well.
In an attempt to set fans’ minds at ease and to ensure that they aren’t being kept in the dark, Sony has now announced the Days Gone release date, letting people know exactly when they’ll be able to get their hands on it. In a post on the PlayStation Blog published earlier today, the company confirmed that Days Gone will be released on PS4 on February 22,2019. The game will become one of several major titles scheduled for an early 2019 release, with BioWare’s sci-fi RPG Anthem and fellow survival action title Metro Exodus set to launch in Q1 2019 as well.
Alongside the release date announcement, Sony has also revealed lots of new Days Gone gameplay information as well as a brand new trailer. This trailer, which is just over one minute and 40 seconds long, details an enemy faction called Rest In Peace (also known as R. I. P.), which is a group that worships enemy Freakers just like a cult.
Not only are R. I. P. members important to the story, but they also have an interesting place within the Freaker ecology as they refuse to kill Freakers even when they swarm their camp. Developer SIE Bend has previously spoken about zombie genre fatigue and comparisons to The Last of Us, but it seems as though these sorts of mechanics surrounding enemy AI could help to distinguish the game.
The trailer also provides some details about the animal threats that Days Gone protagonist Deacon will face throughout the game. Infected mountain lions/cougars and ravens (called Criers) will viciously attack the character as he is traveling through the world. These infected animals move in groups suggesting that they will be almost as tough to take down as groups of Freakers.
Days Gone is one of the games set to feature heavily during the PlayStation E3 2018 press conference and it will be one of the major promotional stops for the game ahead of that early 2019 release date. This will hopefully mean that plenty of additional information about Freakers, infected animals, allied NPCs and more will be made available during the event.
Days Gone will be released on February 22,2019 exclusively for PS4.
