The video game publisher and developer Capcom is currently not planning on making a Nintendo Switch version of its forthcoming Resident Evil 2 project.
Without a doubt, Resident Evil 2 made a major debut during its showcase at Sony’s PlayStation E3 2018 press conference, as the forthcoming title offered fans a meaty gameplay trailer to sink their teeth into at the event. While its platforms have been unveiled as PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, some Nintendo Switch fans have wondered whether or not the project will ever see the light of day on the hybrid mobile console. Unfortunately, though, it looks as if Capcom is not planning a Switch version.
This much was confirmed by Capcom brand manager Mike Lunn at E3 2018, with the employee of the publisher and developer having been asked if a Nintendo Switch iteration of Resident Evil 2 could be coming later on down the line. Lunn responded by saying, “No, not at this time. We just wanted to focus on PS4, Xbox One, and PC at the moment.
Naturally, this won’t come as much of a shock to Nintendo Switch owners, but the lack of Resident Evil 2 on the hardware will still be disappointing, as the system will miss out on yet another big AAA title at or around launch. That’s not to say REmake 2 won’t ever come to the Switch, though, as Capcom eventually managed to find a way to release Resident Evil 7 on Switch by way of game streaming. However, fans of the Big N shouldn’t expect the forthcoming title to arrive on Switch any time soon.
While there are surely plenty of fans who game exclusively on their Nintendo Switch, there are likely a plethora of other Switch owners who play on other platforms like PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One that want to experience Resident Evil 2 when it comes out. Should this be the case for anyone, those interested would do well to check out these 12 minutes of gameplay footage to get a better idea if it might be worth a day one purchase.
Resident Evil 2 is currently scheduled to launch on January 25,2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
