The South Korean electronics giant announced today that the Galaxy Note 9 will debut on August 9th at an UNPACKED event held in Brooklyn, New York.
The invitation that we received seems to show the Galaxy Note 9’s new S Pen, and nothing else. Gadget leaker Ice Universe stated earlier this week that the new S Pen will have features that are « worth the wait » and that it « may be the biggest update in the history of the S Pen ». Given those statements, it seems appropriate that Samsung would zero in on the S Pen with its invite.
As for the Galaxy Note 9 itself, we’re not expecting to see any major design changes compared to the current-generation Galaxy Note 8. There will still be dual cameras on the rear along with a centrally-mounted fingerprint reader. It appears that we’ll have to look towards the Galaxy S10 or Galaxy Note 10 for Samsung’s first in-display fingerprint reader, however. According to leaked renders, the display bezels are slightly smaller this time around and a 3.5mm headphone jack is still featured along with a USB-C port.
When it comes to the hardware that will power the Galaxy Note 9, we’re certain that a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 will be used along with at least 6GB of memory. Given that the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB capacities, we’re expecting similar storage SKUs for the Galaxy Note 9. Other notes of interest include a 4,000 mAh battery (up from 3,300 mAh) and support for the Bixby 2.0 AI assistant.
Although the Galaxy UNPACKED event it still a little over a month away, we’ll be live to cover the Galaxy Note 9 launch and will provide you all the details on the new flagship as they become available.
