Another major update has hit Cloud Imperium Games’ crowd-funded behemoth Star Citizen, bumping up the Alpha version number to 3.2.0. The update carries mining mechanics, new ships, and more.
Cloud Imperium Games has pushed out another major update for Star Citizen Alpha, which arrives only a few months after the previous sizable update, with the developer keeping up with its plans to launch four major updates during 2018 for the crowd-funded title.
The new 3.2.0 update’s main attraction is the introduction of mining, where players can now scan for ore deposits on the available moons, fracture and extract the minerals they find, and finally, sell the valuable cargo at kiosks on GrimHex, Levski, and Port Olisar.
However, note that only the MISC Prospector vessel has been implemented with the mining capabilities, for now, so anyone looking to try out the new feature right now will either need to buy the ship or lend it from a player who already has one.
Also, parties now have the ability to quantum travel together. Once a player inside a group spools their quantum drive and selects a location, the data is transmitted to other players who can then join in on the procedure. Finally, the original player then gets the ability to initiate quantum travel on all the ships involved.
On the ship side of things, four new vessels have rolled in with the update: Anvil Hurricane, Esperia Blade, Aegis Eclipse, and Origin 600i Explorer. Meanwhile, the Aegis Avenger has received a complete rework.
Beyond that, there is a massive amount of smaller changes listed on the official patch notes, including a new type of mission, new weapons, leaning in first-person combat, and more. The full changelog can be found here, while the developer roadmap for upcoming updates is over here, where the Alpha 3.3.0 update is planned for Q3 of this year, which is slated to implement the planet Hurston and its moons among other features.
