Microsoft has been having some difficulty keeping secrets recently, and their cheap Surface tablet has been one of their most poorly kept secrets in recent memory.
The device is expected to be revealed tomorrow, but now full details and pictures of the device have leaked, courtesy of a trigger-happy website posted about the device early.
Tom’s Hardware spilt all the beans and reports the 10-inch tablet will be smaller, lighter and cheaper. The screen will feature an 1800 x 1200 resolution with a 3:2 ratio, an Intel Pentium Gold 4415Y processor, with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage.
Importantly the 64GB version uses eMMC, while the more expensive 128GB and 256GB options are SSDs.
The 4 GB RAM, 64 GB storage version is $399 ($449 commercial version), the 8 GB RAM, 128 GB storage version $549 ($599 commercial version). An LTE version with 256 GB storage is coming later and unpriced.
The tablets are the first to feature a USB-C connector, microSD card slot, an actual Surface connector and headphone jack.
The tablet will last up to 9 hours on a full charge.
The device will ship with Windows 10 Home in S Mode which can be switched to Windows 10 Home for free, while the commercial version will ship with Windows 10 Pro, which can, of course, be placed in S Mode if needed.
The Surface Go features its own more affordable accessories, which need to be purchased separately. The cheapest will be a backlit black polyurethane Type Cover and a Signature Type Cover that comes in Alcantara platinum, burgundy and cobalt blue with 1 mm of travel, offering a great typing experience.
This will be accompanied by a Bluetooth travel mouse in platinum, burgundy and cobalt blue.
The tablet will hit stores on the 2nd of August. See the full specs below:
