CNN anchor Anderson Cooper appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” Wednesday and discussed why he previously called President Donald Trump’s Helsinki summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin “disgraceful.”
Cooper drew cheers from the audience after clarifying his original statement from Monday’s CNN broadcast. (RELATED: CNN’s Anderson Cooper Compares Trump To Autistic ‘Rain Main’ For Mentioning Hillary Clinton Email Scandal)
“I said ‘the most disgraceful performance by an American president on a world stage in my lifetime,’” Cooper told Colbert to cheers from the audience. “It just popped out. I— I’m not saying it proudly or gleefully. It just popped out. It was the first thing I said. As soon as the press conference was done, it just sort of popped out of my mouth.”
Colbert began mocking Trump for trying to walk back his comments, prompting Cooper to belittle the president’s intelligence.

“He has the best words as he told us during the campaign,” Cooper continued.
Cooper was appearing alongside Bravo network host Andy Cohen and shifted the conversation to Cohen texting him about “hot guys” in Helsinki.
“Wherever I go Andy always texts me and it’s often very incongruous to what I’m actually doing,” Cooper concluded. “And I keep getting texts and I checked them during commercial breaks — and it is from Andy saying ‘like so how hot are the guys in Helsinki?’ I’m like, I don’t— I’m on the air.”
