BlackBerry today launched the Evolve and Evolve X smartphones in India. Both the smartphones have been licensed by Optiemus Infracom and are designed and manufactured in India. The Evolve and Evolve X come with many similar features and some differentiating specifications. In this article, we will list the similarities and differences between them.
The BlackBerry Evolve price in India is Rs. 24,990 while the Evolve X has been priced at Rs. 34,990 for the 6GB RAM+64GB storage single variant. Concerning availability, both the phones will be exclusively up for sale via Amazon in India and select offline stores across India. The BlackBerry Evolve will go on sale by the end of this month while the BlackBerry Evolve X will get listed in mid-September.
Both the BlackBerry Evolve and Evolve X smartphones come with a 5.99-inch full-HD+ FullView LTPS IPS LCD screen at 1080×2160 pixels resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. They also sport a textured back and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. There is no difference between the two when it comes to display and design.
The BlackBerry Evolve is powered by a Snapdragon 450 SoC coupled with Adreno 506 GPU, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. It is backed by a 4000mAh battery but lacks wireless charging support. The handset runs Android 8.1 Oreo-based DTEK OS.
An octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor powers the BlackBerry Evolve X along with Adreno 512 GPU, 6GB of RAM, and 64GB storage (expandable up to 2TB via microSD card). The phone runs Android 8.1 Oreo-based out-of-the-box. A 4000mAh battery backs the device with support for wireless charging and it also comes bundled with a wireless charger.
For optics, the Evolve packs a 13MP+13MP dual camera setup at the rear with dual-tone LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, and RGB+Mono mode. Additional rear camera features include slow motion video-recording, 4X autofocus, and refocus mode. There is a 16MP fixed focus selfie snapper on the front with LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, Tetra Pixel technology, real-time bokeh mode, and 78-degree Field of View (FoV).
The BlackBerry Evolve X, on the contrary, has a 12MP+13MP dual camera setup at the rear with f/1.8 aperture and f/2.6 aperture, respectively. The rear cameras also include dual-tone LED flash and 6P lens. It has the same 16MP camera on the front as the BlackBerry Evolve.
Both the BlackBerry Evolve and the Evolve X have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, which is touted to unlock the phone in 0.3 seconds. These are the first phones from BlackBerry to feature Face Unlock, which can unlock the phone in 0.4 seconds. Connectivity options on both the handsets include 4G VoLTE, USB Type-C with OTG, FM radio, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
As obvious, the only differences between these two latest phones from BlackBerry is their chipsets, RAM capacities, rear cameras, and wireless charging support. Given the specs of both the smartphones, we are not quite convinced with the respective price tags that the company has put on them. There are better phones on the market that are available at lesser pricing than these two.
