The Nokia 5.1 Plus, also known as the Nokia X5 in China is a slightly less powerful version of the Nokia X6 (also known as the Nokia 6.1 Plus) but it is every bit as premium. There has been a long talk and continuous debate on whether or not HMD Global would be launching the Nokia X5 and the Nokia X6 as the Nokia 5.1 Plus, and Nokia 6.1 Plus, respectively.
To be honest, it is in HMD Global’s best interest to release both smartphones, especially the Nokia 5.1 Plus. The handset will compete with a lot of other mid-range smartphones and since its affordability and premium build will attract a lot of eyes towards it, we might see the device getting launched in India very soon.
The Nokia 5.1 Plus features a 5.86-inch IPS screen along with a resolution of 1520 × 720 in a 19:9 aspect ratio. Its design is very similar to the Nokia 6.1 Plus’ design, giving users that premium feel of the handset but in a very affordable package.
The camera of the Nokia 5.1 Plus consists of a dual 13 + 5MP rear setup along with an 8MP front shooter. The 5MP secondary camera unit attached to the back of the smartphone is a not a monochrome sensor and neither does it have telephoto capabilities. Instead, it is used for depth sensing, meaning that it can create a shallow depth of field and offer users snapped pictures with a Bokeh effect, improving the overall quality.
The phone packs the MediaTek Helio P60 chipset, which is less powerful than the Snapdragon 636 running in the Nokia 6.1 Plus. Irrespective of that, the smartphone will be able to deliver a fluid UI experience, with the device paired with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM, depending on the model that you end up buying in the future.
There are several connectivity options for the Nokia 5.1 Plus and this includes a USB-C charging port, as well as the 3.5mm headphone jack. The wireless options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, LE, FM Radio, GPS and A-GPS. As far as its software front is concerned, the Android One device is running the Android 8.1 Oreo update, with future software and security updates in tow.
The advantage that buyers will immediately see in owning the Nokia 5.1 Plus when it launches in India is that because it belongs to the Android One family, it will be having little to no bloatware and if you do not appreciate the additional applications pre-installed on this smartphone, you can immediately choose to uninstall them with great ease.
Keeping the lights of the Nokia 5.1 Plus on is a 3060mAh battery, which is a very reasonable capacity although it is non-removable and according to the specifications, the phone does not support wireless charging or fast charging. Nokia 5.1 Plus also comes in a 32GB or 64GB storage model. Nokia X5 comes in three color variants Black, Blue, and White.
The 4GB RAM version provides 64GB of storage while the variant sporting 3GB of RAM provides an onboard storage of 32GB. The fun part is that the storage space can be expanded up to 256GB in both these variants with the use of a microSD card.
Nokia 5.1 Plus’ price in India is currently not confirmed at the moment because HMD Global has not made an official announcement. What this also means is that the launch date of the device is not confirmed as well. However, if the phone was to land here, its expected price is said to start from Rs. 10200, making it very affordable for a lot of customers living in India.
