A member of the Golden Knights, the U. S. Army’s parachute team which is headquartered in Fort Bragg, died Saturday in a plane crash while off-duty.
Fort Bragg, N. C. — A member of the Golden Knights, the U. S. Army’s parachute team headquartered in Fort Bragg, died Saturday in a plane crash while off-duty.
« It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that [we] announce the recent death of SSG Aliaksandr ‘Alex’ Bahrytsevich, » the U. S. Army posted on Sunday.
According to the Golden Knights, Staff Sergeant Bahrytsevich, 31, died in a small plane crash in Swainsboro, Georgia. As a member of the Golden Knights Black Demonstration Team, SSG Bahrytsevich performed parachute stunts alongside other members from all branches of the Army.
« Alex was extremely passionate about the sport of skydiving and always sought opportunities to coach and mentor other members of the team, » the post read. « Originally from Belarus, Alex served the U. S. Army with distinction and pride. »
Earlier this month, the Golden Knights welcomed WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner and several other members of the media to tandem skydive while strapped to a trained parachuter.
