Oculus co-founder Jordan Iribe is leaving Facebook, making him the latest founder of a company acquired by the social networking giant to depart the company. The reason remains unclear, though.
Another high-profile individual has been added to the list of executives who have resigned from Facebook. Oculus co-founder Brendan Iribe has announced today his resignation both from his own organization and its parent company, Facebook.
There’s currently no word on where he is heading next nor did Iribe disclose the reason behind his departure, but he said in a Facebook post that this would be his first real break in 20 years. He said:
Iribe joined Facebook in 2014 as part of its purchase of Oculus. While he did not say why he decided to leave Facebook, TechCrunch reports that there had been a major revamp to Oculus last week which led to the cancellation of the Rift 2 virtual reality headset, which Iribe was developing. According to the report, he and Facebook had different views on the roadmap for the future of Oculus.
If that’s the reason behind Iribe’s exit, it seems similar to the pattern among other major departures from the social media giant in recent times, including the resignation of Instagram co-founders Kevin Sysntrom and Mike Krieger last month. This was preceded by the exit of Jan Koum, the chief executive of WhatsApp, earlier this year.
