A timeline of post-release content for Battlefield 5 indicates the game’s Battle Royale mode, Firestorm, won’t be available at launch, and will be added in early 2019.
About a couple of months ago, the developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts relayed a good deal of gameplay details about what players ought to expect out of Battlefield V‘s forthcoming Battle Royale mode known as Firestorm. Now, though, it looks as if fans of the first-person shooter franchise won’t be able to dive into Firestorm shortly after the new game launches, as the companies have announced that it won’t be added into the title until early 2019.
According to a timeline of post-release content that begins in December 2018 for Battlefield V, Firestorm is going to be released in Chapter 3–appropriately dubbed Trial by Fire–which is set to start in March of next year. DICE and Electronic Arts’ details regarding Trial by Fire also revealed that the third chapter is set to include a new Greece map that is focused on a “massive aerial invasion along the Cretan coast.”
While it was already known that Firestorm wouldn’t be available in Battlefield 5 at launch, it’s safe to presume that most fans will be surprised to learn that the mode will be going live several months after the game’s release. That said, though, this decision by DICE and Electronic Arts has the potential to pay off in the long run, for adding the Battle Royale mode in March 2019 could result in sales and player engagement occurring over a longer period of time.
With the Battle Royale craze still in full swing at the moment, it will be interesting to see if Battlefield V‘s delay of Firestorm until March 2019 will wind up enticing gamers who are looking for a fresh experience with the game type. After all, with a slew of different choices for Battle Royale available now, there’s a chance that some gamers may burn themselves out on Fortnite and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4‘s Blackout mode and need another alternative come next year.
Battlefield V is set to launch on November 20,2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
