Nov. 2 (UPI) — One victim died and six others sustained injuries Friday when a gunman opened fire at a Tallahassee yoga studio before killing himself, local police said.
Tallahassee Police Chief Michael DeLeo said the shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. at Hot Yoga. Emergency workers transported the victims to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare hospital. One died at the hospital.
Of those hospitalized, one was in critical condition, three were serious and two were in good condition, TMH spokeswoman Danielle Buchanan said.
Police said the suspected gunman appeared to have turned the gun on himself.
Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum was at a campaign rally in Miami for his gubernatorial bid at the time of the shooting.
« I’m deeply appreciative of law enforcement’s quick response to the shooting at the yoga facility in Tallahassee today. No act of gun violence is acceptable. I’m in close communication with law enforcement officials and will be returning to Tallahassee tonight, » he said on Twitter.
