Samsung is set to join the notch bandwagon soon. The company at its developer’s conference confirmed this and showcased some new notch designs that it could use in its future phones. In a slide shared by the company during the keynote showed new notch designs that we may see in the Samsung’s 2019 phones.
There were basically three notch designs that the company showed off- Infinity-U, Infinity-V, and Infinity-O. The Infinity-U branded display phones will have a U-shaped notch like the one we see in Essential phones. The Infinity-V display phones will have a U-shaped notch but with four edges. The Infinity-O display phones will have a circular cutout in the display which will hold the selfie camera. There is a fourth kind of display also called the New Infinity display which will have a complete notch-free display.
» We’re going to push the limits with our new lineup: the Infinity U, V, and O displays. These are new concepts that are just around the corner, and I can’t wait to tell you more about them, » The Verge quotes assan Anjum, director of product marketing at Samsung.
To recall, Samsung last year mocked Apple for its notch design. Following the iPhone X’s official launch, Samsung released a new Galaxy Note 8 ad that mainly made fun of Apple iPhone X’s notch design and lack of headphone jack among many other things. It will be interesting to see how the company explains itself on the adoption of notch in its future phones.
Talking about the Samsung future phones, Samsung’s foldable phone reportedly to be called as Galaxy F, is expected to launch in the coming few months. The company even gave a glimpse of the phone on Wednesday saying that the mass production of the phone will start in coming months. The phone was showed off by Samsung senior vice president of mobile marketing. The phone will transform itself into a tablet when it’s fully opened and a phone when it’s folded. Reports suggest that it uses a new Infinity Flex Display technology that lets you fold and unfold the phone over and over for as many as hundreds of thousands of times without any degradation.
