The appointment by bipartisan Republican Jeb of Dr. Snipes, a Democrat, was a hat tip to the bureaucratic seat-warmers of higher education
WASHINGTON: The nation’s Republicans are a little miffed of late, resulting from the actions of Florida’s Dr. Brenda Calhoun Snipes, the Broward County Supervisor of Elections. As you’ve probably heard by now, it appears Snipes is either grossly incompetent or a political hack intent on stealing state elective offices on behalf of her fellow Sunshine State Democrats.
The problem, you see, is that Mrs. Snipes serves in an innocuous state office where incumbency virtually assures re-election. Nobody really noticed Snipes until recently, when her office mysteriously mixed rejected provisional ballots with legitimate ones, causing today’s political and legal kerfuffle.
So, who was it that gave Snipes the gift of incumbency? The answer is in her official biography posted on the Broward County Supervisor of Elections website:
“Dr. Snipes is a highly regarded education consultant and has traveled to other counties and states to serve as a consultant in leadership for principals and district-level administrators. She has served as adjunct professor in educational leadership at Florida Atlantic University… Because of her extensive and successful leadership and administrative skills, Dr. Snipes was asked by Governor Jeb Bush to serve out the term of Supervisor of Elections in Broward County. She began this appointment on November 20,2003.” (Emphasis added)
Good old bipartisan Republican Jeb.
You can imagine educator Snipes excitement when, during the Obama administration, bipartisan Republican Jeb was brought into the national conversation over education. That conversation used to be the business of parents, students, teachers and their respective boards of education. But good old bipartisan Jeb thought he’d lend a Republican hand in helping Democratic President Barack Obama craft national standards for Washington’s education bureaucrats to impose on parents, students and their respective boards of education through the monstrosity known as Common Core.
Back in 2011, Obama shared a stage in Miami with bipartisan Republican Jeb to honor him as a “champion of education reform.” According to the Tampa Bay Times:
“Having Bush on stage was beneficial to Obama, who was preparing for what seemed like a brutal re-election in the face of a struggling economy and growing unrest overseas… For Bush, it validated his leadership on education and was an optimistic sign that the issue would bridge the deepening rift between Republicans and Democrats.”
The appointment by bipartisan Republican Jeb of Dr. Snipes, a Democrat, as Broward County Supervisor of Elections, was a hat tip to the bureaucratic seat-warmers and clock-watchers of higher education. And his “education reform” hobbyhorse served to give a troubled Democratic presidential incumbent a leg up on his re-election campaign in an effort to help close the “deepening rift between Republicans and Democrats.”
And if a suicidal GOP keeps following in the footsteps of bipartisan, low-energy Republicans like Jeb Bush, Democrats like Dr. Brenda Snipes will simply erase their party’s candidates during irregular, extralegal vote counts.
