Popular smartphone leakster Evan Blass had shared an alleged press render of a White color variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 earlier this month. While Blass wasn’t sure about the authenticity of the image, Samsung has now announced that it will be launching a white version of the Galaxy Note 9 in Taiwan next week. The upcoming Pure White color variant will join the existing Midnight Black, Lavender Purple, Ocean Blue, and Metallic Copper colors. In the US, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is available in a Cloud Silver color option as well.
Samsung will be introducing the new White color variant of the Galaxy Note 9 ( review) in Taiwan on November 23. The launch of the new color variant is expected to help drive sales of the flagship smartphone in the country during the upcoming holiday season. For now, it appears Taiwan will be the first market where the White Galaxy Note 9 variant will go on sale. However, we can expect the new color variant to be launched in a few other markets shortly after its introduction in Taiwan. So far, Samsung has introduced only one new color variant for the Galaxy Note 9 – Cloud Silver. The Cloud Silver option is currently available only in the US.
As for the price, Galaxy Note 9 White color variant is expected to be priced at TWD 30,900 (INR 72,600 approx.) in Taiwan for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant, just like the other color variants. In terms of hardware specifications as well, the White color variant will be identical to the other color variants.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 was launched with the Android 8.1 Oreo-based Samsung Experience 9.5 out of the box. While a few Android OEMs have started rolling out the Android 9.0 Pie update for some of their models, Samsung does not plan to release the stable Android Pie update for any of its devices this year. Instead, Samsung will be rolling out the Android Pie update for the Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9 Plus, and Galaxy Note 9 smartphones early next year. However, the South Korean company did launch the Android Pie beta program for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus owners recently, allowing them to test out the beta build and help Samsung roll out the stable update on time.
The Android Pie update for the Galaxy Note 9 will bring the new One UI user-interface. As smartphone displays are getting bigger each year, Samsung’s One UI user interface aims at making one-handed usage easier. It will also include a new Night Mode that will make it easier for users to use their smartphone in the dark. Another new feature that the Pie update will include is Adoptable Storage. With Adoptable Storage, you will be able to use the microSD card inserted inside your phone as an extension of the internal storage. This means you can install applications on the microSD card. While this feature certainly sounds quite useful for budget smartphones, we doubt many Galaxy Note 9 users will find the feature very useful. The base variant of the Galaxy Note 9 comes with ample 128GB of internal storage, while the more expensive variant packs a massive 512GB of onboard storage.
