Spyro Reignited Trilogy is a fantastic game, we loved it, but it does lack one very important aspect of accessibility for many gamers: subtitles.
While subtitles absolutely should be industry standard, Activision’s remasters of both Spyro and Crash noticeably abstained from including subtitles.
That’s not to say Spyro doesn’t include some subtitles. Aspects of the original PSOne release that featured large text boxes, such as NPC conversations in Spyro 2 and 3, are back. Subtitles do remain absent from the game’s full cutscenes though.
Commenting about the situation, Activision has claimed that there isn’t an industry standard for subtitles. It’s a sad case, as subtitles absolutely should be included in every game. If smaller indie titles can fully subtitle their games, sometimes in multiple languages, then there is no excuse here.
