President Trump defended his daughter Ivanka for using a private email to send government-related information, saying the information wasn’t « classified. »
During an interview, President Donald Trump supported his daughter Ivanka Trump in light of reports that she used a private email account to exchange government information.
Many are comparing Ivanka to Hillary Clinton, calling the president’s daughter out for hypocrisy. However, the president was very quick in pointing out two major differences in the two situations.
“Early on, and for a little period of time, Ivanka did some emails,” he said. “They weren’t classified like Hillary Clinton. They weren’t deleted like Hillary Clinton, who deleted 33 [thousand]… She wasn’t doing anything to hide her e-mails.”
Although there are issues with any government official using a private email, Clinton’s email scandal was on a much larger scale and had potentially criminal implications. The emails exchanged by Ivanka were not classified and are allegedly in the White House records.
“What Ivanka Trump did, all in the presidential records, everything is there,” Trump said. “There was no deletion, no nothing. What it is a false story. Hillary Clinton deleted 33,000 e-mails, she had a server in the basement, that is the real story.”
Despite reassurances from the president, Representative Trey Gowdy requested information on the Ivanka’s emails in order to evaluate whether there was any risk involved. According to Trump’s attorney, the emails were non-classified and used for scheduling at the very beginning of the presidency.
