For 30 minutes, the game rotated between ugly and uglier.
Michigan’s second-ranked basketball team couldn’t find shots against an inferior opponent in Binghamton. It took until almost 12 minutes into the second half for the Wolverines to extend its lead to more than 10 points.
Then, sophomore forward Isaiah Livers hit a jumper and a layup on consecutive possessions before swishing a 3-pointer to cap off an 11-0 Michigan run that extended the Wolverines’ lead to 14. From there, Michigan kept the margin comfortable, eventually winning 74-52 in its final tuneup before settling into Big Ten play this week.
Michigan (13-0) needs three more wins to tie the best start in school history at 16-0, set by the 2012-13 team.
Freshman forward Ignas Brazdeikis (21 points), sophomore guard Jordan Poole (18) and Livers (17) carried the majority of the load on offense for Michigan on Sunday.
