The National Association of Music Merchants can be overwhelmingly male, but increasingly women are staking out their own turf at the annual convention in Anaheim.
Women are definitely a minority at NAMM, in the audience and on the panels, so it was nice to see She Shreds magazine take over the stage inside the Gibson room for a talk by five women guitarists on the topic of tone.
Joining She Shreds founder and editor Fabi Reyna on Friday were well-known artists such as Nancy Wilson of Heart, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, and Cam, a singer-songwriter whose songs have been recorded by the likes of Sam Smith and Miley Cyrus, as well as emerging performers including Emily Wolfe, Michelle Arseneau and Emily Ruvidich.
