Serena Williams quest for a record-tying 24th Grand Slam win will have to wait until Wimbledon later this summer after she lost in the third round at the French Open on Saturday to fellow American Sofia Kenin, 6-2,7-5.
This is 37-year-old Willliams’ earliest Grand Slam exit since Wimbledon in 2014, and Saturday’s match was only the third time in her career she lost to a player from the U. S. younger than her. Williams is now 34-3 against younger Americans as Kenin joins Sloane Stephens and Madison Brengle in defeating the GOAT, per longtime tennis reporter Ben Rothenberg.
