NFL owners table alternative proposal for onside kick

Proposal for having a fourth-and-15 play from their own 25-yard-line after scoring instead of an onside kick for a trailing team was a no-go.
The proposal to allow teams to get a chance with a fourth-and-15 play from their own 25-yard-line after scoring instead of an onside kick was tabled by NFL owners at their virtual league meeting Thursday.
There could be further discussion on the proposal down the road, but for now, it’s a no-go. That news should make the McCourty brothers happy.
Neither defensive back was on board with making that the alternative to an onside kick for a trailing team desperately trying to regain possession.
“If you give a team 4th-and-15, you’re acting like that’s equal to an onsides kick,” said Patriots safety Devin McCourty. “To me, if you give these offensive coordinators and good quarterbacks any time to work on situations, they’ll have a bunch of 4th-and-15 plays.
“I’m not saying they’re going to operate on a high level,” he went on, “but that seems a little too easy.”
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was in favor, but it’s understandable given his success rate converting on any down.
