« The whole world is watching, » Britney Spears’ lawyer says, as she and her father battle in court over whether to open up her longstanding conservatorship case to the public. According to a motion filed in probate court in Los Angeles, Britney Spears objects to dad and guardian James « Jamie » Spears’ attempt to seal multiple documents in the case having to do with who will be her conservators and when will she gain more freedom from the restrictions that have limited her autonomy for a dozen years. The pop star wants to drop her father as a co-conservator and appoint someone else, and has filed motions seeking those goals. Her mother, Lynne Spears, also has gotten involved, endorsing her daughter’s choice, Bessemer Trust Company, according to a motion she filed Monday. Jamie Spears has been a co-conservator of his daughter since the conservatorship began in 2008 after she suffered a mental-health crisis, managing her financial affairs in the years since. He objects to her daughter’s choice of conservator and wants someone else appointed, a former co-conservator, Andrew Wallet, who retired in 2019. Jamie Spears also wants to keep all proceedings and documents in the case behind closed doors.
