League determined the Lakers star’s attendance at a get-together to promote his tequila brand did not warrant a suspension-worthy offense going into Sunday’s playoff series with Phoenix
A high-profile shindig with celebrity friends turned out to be a no-no for LeBron James. The 36-year-old breached the NBA’s COVID-19 protocols earlier this week for a get-together with, among others, rapper Drake and actor Michael B. Jordan, for James’ tequila brand, which he consistently promotes on social media. The NBA guidelines restrict social gatherings with people outside of players’ and staffers’ households. An NBA spokesman confirmed to Southern California News Group that the incident was investigated by the league and addressed with the team, but ultimately did not rise to the level of a suspension-worthy offense, owing to the venue’s outdoor location, the testing and vaccinations of attendees, and the limited time James spent at the event. ESPN was first to report James’ breach. James is expected to start for the Lakers on Sunday against the Phoenix Suns in Game 1 of their first-round series.
