For the fourth consecutive season, the Milwaukee Brewers’ World Series hopes were snuffed out by the eventual National League Champion. The Atlanta Braves became the latest team to accomplish the feat, punching their ticket to the Fall Classic for the first time since 1999 with a 4-2 victory over the Dodgers Saturday night in Game 6 of the NL Championship Series after opening their playoff run with a 3-1 victory over Milwaukee in the NLDS. In fact, all but one of the eight postseason appearances in franchise history has ended with the Brewers being eliminated by the eventual pennant winner. The only exception came in 1982, when Milwaukee fell to the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series. And of those teams, only two — the 1981 Yankees and 2018 Dodgers — failed to win the World Series, while the Braves would become the third straight team to win the title after eliminating the Brewers. After eliminating Milwaukee in the first-ever Division Series, made possible by a 51-day midseason strike, the Yankees swept Oakland in AL Championship series then took the first two games of the World Series before dropping four straight to the Dodgers, who won their first title since 1965. A year later, the Brewers finally made it to the World Series only to drop the final two games of a seven-game classic to the Cardinals, who won their ninth championship.
