Fire victim’s boss leads donation effort for housing, items family needs
INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Julie Romero was at work at a preschool when her husband Alex called telling her their house, which they lived in with three children, was on fire. Firefighters believe an appliance started the blaze Thursday evening that destroyed the kitchen and sent heavy smoke throughout the home, killing the family’s cat. The residence in the 4100 block of 30th Avenue rented by the couple in their 20s, with two boys and a girl between 2 and 6 years old, was left uninhabitable. It needs to be gutted and redone, Indian River County Fire Rescue officials said.
