Lloyd Austin says US will work with Israel to ensure it can defend itself as national security council condemns ‘terrorism’
The US defense secretary, Lloyd Austin, said on Saturday morning that he was “closely monitoring” the attack in Israel after Hamas gunmen infiltrated into Israeli towns and villages and launched a large aerial operation from the blockaded Gaza Strip.
“Over the coming days the Department of Defense will work to ensure that Israel has what it needs to defend itself and protect civilians from indiscriminate violence and terrorism,” Austin said in a statement.
