A « Pineapple Express » is expected to bring light to heavy rain showers to portions of California this week, and no, we’re not referring to the 2008 film « Pineapple Express » starring Seth Rogen and James Franco.
This version of « Pineapple Express » is an atmospheric river that builds up in the tropical Pacific, according to the National Weather Service.
An NWS forecast posted Wednesday morning says a « plume of moisture » will move along the West Coast and transition into Southern California overnight Wednesday, which is expected to create heavy rain across the region and state.
« Furthermore, the moisture will also create snow over parts of Northern/Central California, » the forecast said. « The Shasta and Sierra Nevada mountains will get heavy snow from late Wednesday morning into Thursday morning. »
The NWS said the moisture plume will produce heavy rain in Southern California Thursday, with the Weather Prediction Center issuing a Slight Risk of excessive rainfall over parts of the region from Thursday into Friday morning.
