The beloved HBO series Veep follows Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), a female U.S. Vice President who eventually does, in fact, become president.
In the wake of President Joe Biden dropping out of the 2024 election on Sunday (July 21), he’s endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris — who has already begun her campaign — to take over the Democratic ticket, and the comparisons between Harris and the fictional Meyer have been dominating social media.
“Veep writers called it holy shit,” one X user wrote, sharing a clip of Dreyfus’ Meyer sharing the news that the president was “not going to run for a second term” and that she was going to be running for president.
Another shared a clip spotlighting Meyer’s excitement upon learning the news, captioning the post, “Kamala right now.” Meanwhile, one fan wrote that they “will never get over the fact that we’re living through the plot of Veep in real time.
