Donald Trump questioned Harris’ racial identity in an interview at the National Association of Black Journalists conference.
Former President Donald Trump’s performance in an interview at a Black journalists’ panel, during which he questioned Vice President Kamala Harris’ race, was an overall failure, a Republican political strategist has said.
Trump, the Republican nominee, said that Harris, the first Black woman and Asian American to serve as vice president, had only promoted her Indian heritage in the past and did not identity as Black until more recently.
« I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black and now she wants to be known as Black. So, I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black? » Trump said during an interview at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) conference in Chicago on Wednesday.
Scott Jennings, a former adviser to Republican President George W. Bush, said on CNN’s NewsNight with Abby Phillip that the interview was not good for Trump.
« I think he deserves some points for showing up at this thing and giving it a go. Where’s Kamala Harris today? Not there », he told Phillip, who had asked him about what appeared to be a « rehearsed » line of attack.
