Billionaire Elon Musk said he will attend a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, to support Donald Trump as he returns to the site of an assassination attempt against him this summer, marking the first time Musk will show up to support the Republican presidential candidate at a campaign event in person after months of boosting the ex-president—and tearing down his opponents—online.Key Facts

Musk said on X, formerly known as Twitter, « I will be there to support! » in response to a tweet from Trump calling his upcoming Saturday rally « HISTORIC! »

Trump’s rally is set to happen at the same place a bullet grazed his ear and one supporter was killed in July, during an assassination attempt that prompted the head of the Secret Service to resign and led to new security precautions for the former president, including speaking behind bulletproof glass at future outdoor rallies.

Musk used the assassination attempt to officially declare his support of Trump for president in 2024—despite calling him “not the right guy” in 2016—and has been actively campaigning for him online ever since.

Trump last month said if he wins reelection he will “create a government efficiency commission tasked with conducting a complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government,” a plan first proposed by Musk, and said the world’s richest person has has agreed to head the task force under a Trump administration.

Musk first brought up the idea for a commission that would ensure “taxpayer’s money… is spent in a good way” during a conversation with the former president in August, which was live streamed on X, formerly known as Twitter.

After Trump’s announcement, Musk responded to a tweet about a report that Trump is considering him for a role in auditing U.
