Sept. 6 President Donald Trump announced plans to host the Group of 20 nations’ summit next year at his Trump National Doral golf course near Miami, where he attempted to conduct the event when he was first president.
The event will take place Dec. 14 and 15, 2025, Trump said Friday from the Oval Office of the White House.
« We will have the honor of hosting the G20 summit right here in America for the first time here in nearly 20 years », Trump said as he signed executive orders and took questions from reporters for 1 1/2 hours. « Everybody wants it, because it’s right next to the airport, it’s the best location. Beautiful everything. »
Trump wanted the G7 summit at his property in 2020, but the idea was dropped after criticism, including ethical concerns. The G7 ended up taking place virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The last in-person summit hosted by the U.S. was in Pittsburgh in 2009.
Trump said the 2026 event will be « at cost » for the resort from the State Department or a foreign government.
« We’re doing a deal where it’s not going to be money », Trump said. « There’s no money in it.
