Microsoft to release 3 new Windows 10 SKUs this year
Information about Windows 10 Pro for Advanced PCs got leaked a few minutes ago, confirming that it’s a version that comes with enterprise capabilities like resilient file system storage and expanded hardware support.
Called Windows 10 Pro for Workstation PCs in these leaked screenshots, with Microsoft itself saying that name is not final, this new version of Windows 10 comes with support for server grade hardware and is designed “to meet demanding needs of mission critical and computer intensive workloads.”
The initial release will integrate 4 major features, Microsoft explains, and one of them is workstation mode to provide peak performance and reliability when compute and graphics intensive workload is detected. This means that the Workstation mode can automatically monitor the workload and boost performance when needed in an enterprise environment.
There’s also support for ReFS file system, which is the successor to NTFS, with the software giant explaining it was designed for fault-tolerance and large data volume.
Windows 10 Pro for Advanced PCs will also support faster file sharing with SMBDirect for low latency and CPU usage when accessing network shares.
And last but not least, there’s the expanded hardware support, and “users will now be able to run Windows 10 Pro for Workstation on machine with up to 4 CPUs and add memory up to 6TB.”
These four features are just the beginning, the company promises, and more capabilities would be added as the operating system is improved. There are no details as to when the new operating system SKU is projected to become available, but the chances are that it’ ll land in the coming months or together with the Fall Creators Update in September.
