The Russian lawyer whom Donald Trump Jr. met with last year after being promised compromising information about Hillary Clinton Hillary Rodham Clinton Russian lawyer who met with Trump Jr. says she doesn’t represent Kremlin Assange: I tried to get Trump Jr. to publish emails with WikiLeaks Five questions raised by the Trump Jr. emails MORE said she doesn’t represent the Russian government, The Associated Press reported Tuesday.
“I never had compromising information and could not have had, ” Natalia Veselnitskaya told reporters, the AP reported.
The lawyer said she does “not represent anyone other than myself,  » and reportedly stressed that she “offered to meet with Trump Jr.” in a “private setting » that is « not connected to the fact that he is the son of the presidential candidate.”
Veselnitskaya’s denial comes after multiple news outlets reported she has ties to the Kremlin.
The New York Times reported Sunday that Veselnitskaya has advocated for the Russian government in the past, and that her clients have included « state-owned businesses and a senior government official’s son. »
The Kremlin has denied knowledge of the meeting, and that it knew Veselnitskaya.
Earlier Tuesday, Trump Jr. released an email chain of his correspondence with acquaintance Rob Goldstone about arranging a meeting with the Russian lawyer.
Goldstone told Trump Jr. that Veselnitskaya had « information that would incriminate Hillary. »
“If it’s what you say I love it, ” Trump Jr. replied.
The meeting took place in June 2016 at Trump Tower, two weeks after Donald Trump won the Republican presidential nomination. Then-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner also attended the meeting, according to Trump Jr.
He denies that he received any compromising information about Clinton.
The news about the meeting with the Russian lawyer has raised eyebrows among both Democrats and Republicans, as current and ongoing investigations by both the Justice Department and several congressional panels look into whether Trump campaign aides colluded with Russia during the election.
Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) on Monday called for the Senate Intelligence Committee to interview Trump Jr. about the meeting in question.
