The White House should be concerned that special counsel Robert Mueller has impaneled a grand jury to investigate Russian collusion, as there are no doubts about corruption in the Justice Department, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Friday.
The White House should be concerned that special counsel Robert Mueller has impaneled a grand jury to investigate Russian collusion, as there are no doubts about corruption in the Justice Department, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Friday.
« Notice what Mueller is doing, changing the targets,  » Gingrich told Fox News’ « Fox & Friends » program.
« He would supposedly look into the Russian collusion. The articles this morning say, ‘gee it looks like Russian collusion may be hard to prove because maybe it didn’t happen.’ They will go after finances. After finances they go after procedure. »
Mueller has attracted several « high-powered left-wing lawyers » to the investigative team, Gingrich pointed out.
« They’re virtually all Democrats and headhunters,  » he said. « Go back and look at things the Obama administration did to destroy control of the coal industry. When the government comes after you, no matter who you are, including the president, you have to be worried about the sheer power of the lawyers coming after you. »
The effort, he said, is all because of the existence of the « deep state,  » which sees Trump as its « mortal enemy. »
« The deep state is real,  » Gingrich said. « It is a massive bureaucracy of people that believe in liberal big government . .. This fight will continue because Trump, week-by-week, the judges he is appointing, the regulations he is rolling back and having the governor of West Virginia switch parties — Trump is gradually gaining momentum despite every effort of the deep state and the swamp it lives in to stop him. »
That swamp, though, also includes Republicans, said Gingrich, and a « lot of lobbyists . a lot of never-Trumpers in the Republican Party. »
Trump took over the Republican Party in a « hostile takeover,  » by defeating 16 other candidates in 2016 for the nomination to stage a « hostile takeover » against the establishment.
« He entered the White House with a large number of people in both parties who don’t want to succeed,  » said Gingrich.
Meanwhile, key nominations are being prevented from going through, said Gingrich, whose wife, Callista, has been nominated as ambassador to the Vatican.
« Callista is practicing patience,  » said Gingrich. « Obviously, she would have loved to have gotten through yesterday. I think she was disappointed all other members of her class were confirmed yesterday.
« Apparently one of the Democrats wanted to record a vote on her. She is going to come back in September. »
