Here are some political cartoons on recent news events.
Military tensions between the United States and North Korea flared this week, ending with an impassioned tweet from President Donald Trump about the country’s nuclear weapons.
In his tweet, Trump said the U. S. military was « locked and loaded » if North Korea decided to attack the nation.
The tweet came after the United Nations Security Council imposed new restrictions on exports from North Korea last weekend, which sparked a difficult exchange earlier in the week between the leaders of the two nations.
The sanctions were meant to encourage the country to renounce some of their nuclear weapons, according to The New York Times. But North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong-un, was not pleased with the pressure from the U. S.
Reuters reported that the official news agency of North Korea said on Thursday the country was planning to attack Guam, where a U. S. military stronghold is located, at some point this year.
On top of these tensions with North Korea, the White House has also been battling leaks about the country, the government’s inner workings and our foreign affairs.
In a Q&A session with reporters in Bedminster, New Jersey on Thursday, Trump offered his perspective on the leaked information and how his administration is working to stop the phenomenon.
« You have two leaks. You have the leaks coming out of intelligence and various departments having to do with Syria, having to do with all sorts of different places, having to do, frankly, with North Korea. And those are very serious. And then you have the leaks where people want to love me and they’re all fighting for love,  » he said, according to The Washington Post. « Those are not very important, but certainly we don’ t like them. Those are little inner-White House leaks. They’re not very important. But, actually, I’m somewhat honored by them. »
All of these topics were covered by political cartoonists across the country this week.
