The shop has been a fixture on Magazine Street.
Blue Frog Chocolates, the whimsical candy shop, at 5707 Magazine St., announced Tuesday (Aug. 15) that it is closing, after 17 years in business.
A note from owners Rick Streiffer and his wife, Ann on the Blue Frog Facebook page read: « Blue Frog Chocolates will be closing for business at the end of the month. »
« It’s been 17 years and it’s just time for us to move on, » Ann Streiffer said. « We’re getting older and moving on. We’ve got grandkids all over the country. We’re just at that point our lives where we want to move on. »
Still, she said: « It’s a little bittersweet. We just put the announcement out today. Just hung the sign today, and I’ve already had a customer who is coming in to fill her freezer. »
« We appreciate all of our supporters over the years, » Streiffer said, adding that many of them have been customers since the start.
The Facebook note went on to say: « We thank you all who supported our locally owned family business, and hope you will continue to do the same for others like us. It has been ‘sweet’ to bring a bit of pleasure to you and yours! »
The shop will close on Aug. 31. The couple noted that its candy will sell at a « deep discount, and all fixtures are also available » for sale.
