ORONO — This was a mismatch from the start.
Josh Mack rushed for 255 yards and three touchdowns on just 13 carries as Maine got its first win of the season Saturday with a 60-12 victory over Bryant University at Alfond Stadium.
Chris Ferguson passed for three touchdowns as Maine rolled up 536 yards – 381 on the ground.
Maine, which forced eight turnovers, evened its record at 1-1 entering its bye week. Bryant is also 1-1.
The Black Bears put this one away quickly, scoring a school-record 43 points in the first half. While Mack paced the offense with touchdowns runs of 66,13 and 60 yards, the defense did its part as well.
Maine intercepted five passes, with Darrius Hart (35 yards) and Sinmisola Demuren (20 yards) returning theirs for touchdowns. Jason Matovu, Josh Huffman and Spencer Carey had the other interceptions. Maine also recovered three fumbles.
Maine scored on its first two possessions, getting touchdown passes of 11 and 31 yards from Ferguson to Earnest Edwards.
